I found this question/prompt incredibly helpful! I hit 1600 words in record time.

A sense of yearning, and a sense of lack --- that's exactly what my first chapter opens with. Thank you for this post, it acts as a sort of affirmation for me. My protagonist knows what she lacks and what she yearns for, but doesn't know where and how to get it. A sudden and chance encounter changes that.

money and girls and money. Sofia, a jaded street-smart and book-smart marine archaeologist, and ex navy medic is motivated by surviving Southeast Asia circa 1750. But money buys freedom in the past and now. Not sure it's an isekai and bad pirate romance novel and stuff

I had struggled with this question for SO long. You explained it so wonderfully, I am finally able to put my character's wants into words. Thank you!!

I can't handwrite. No one can read my writing, including me. Just finished roughly fifteen hundred words. It's 4:30. I was going to start at eight. Where did the day go?🤪

This was a great reminder and a guide when I’m feeling panicked. I’ve written each day. I’m not sure of word count because I’m handwriting. Guesstimate: about 2000 words this morning!!!

So jealous of people who handwrite haha amazing!

Me too! I have lost my ability to handwrite 🫣

Well, there’s nothing to be jealous of when you consider the time and the amount of deciphering that’s going to need to happen when I transition to digital format!!!

Great prompt, it's so important to understand our the motivations of all our characters, otherwise figuring out what they're doing next in our story is like pulling teeth.
