Omg, I’ve been following along…no shame in half a decade on your novel…mines been in the works since the 90s. No shame there either, lots of perfectly good excuses- intense focus on 2 grandchildren for their mental health issues, chalk up about 15 years there - now resolving, but leaving me in the now I have my life back how do I proceed column (there is a strong transition there); chalk up the loss of my writing partner very unexpectedly in 2012, something you can never overcome when she was my muse throughout my writing process; and chalk up a very complicated plot challenge that would explain my protagonist reason for feeling obligated to fall into a past behavior when he runs into a friend from his past…although I kept writing, bc I don’t write linearly, that question remained for probably 10 years when a light went on- it’s such an incredible feeling when the universe sends the energy to grasp what your looking for and it’s perfect resolution. Add on much more travel during the mid years of the 2000’s since our son and his fam (4 of our youngest grandkids) moved clear across the US, but to the area my novel takes place, and so close to where my muse lived. Anyway, I’m back writing, revising now actually and hoping to get it in a book format soon…but the November full moon fell into my birthday month and I am learning lots about being here in the dimension. The gifts of mana and others in this chat make me feel blessed

The beliefs she’s still clinging to are: she needs someone to rescue her and she is something that needs to be fixed

Karen Monroe's avatar

Definitely challenging when the belief is such a strong one that likely she’s held on to her whole life…just some questions to think about. Does she know what needs to be fixed? Acknowledging that to herself can set things in motion. Even just a hint from someone else from her past or recently, can get her thinking. And is she going to find herself still needing someone or having an epiphany that she is enough to fix what needs to be fixed may help you figure out the answers yr looking for…it can end either way, but what is yr muse saying

Toni Oreck's avatar

Thanks! Absolutely 😊 Yes, there’s a chapter where the reader watches her make the connection where she realizes she’s worthy in and of herself to receive. It’s a slow roll for her to catch on, but it’s a pivotal moment designed to show she realizes shes not some disempowered flotsom and she can find empowered ways of seeing herself and it helps her move forward in newly found confidence. Thanks again :)

That sounds fantastic and of resounding importance as women need to reassert their power!

What Else Can I Do's avatar

I think he believes that if he keeps holding it all together and powering through duress in his life, then he can handle it all and nothing needs to change. But I’m not yet sure how that will be blown up or what he will do then 😅

But we do know he is screwed 😅

The timing of this is so funny because it was only last night that I was struck by the inspiration stick and all the beliefs of my main characters fell into place. Would have been nice to have known them before I was 35,000 words in, but that’s okay 😂 There’s always draft two

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

Exactly! All will be revealed :)

Maybe it took yr. Character 35,000 woods to figure it out for him/herself

S. O. Sebastian's avatar

It really did; I’m such an overly wordy writer that everything takes a little longer. But hey, at least they figured themselves out eventually!

I hear you. I’m wordy to, yet pretty shy IRL! Keep working, your characters are talking to you

S. O. Sebastian's avatar

Aw, thank you! Haha, I think it’s the shy ones who have the most to say. Can’t what to see what you end up creating <3

Ah...just one belief. Now I get it. hahahaha. This book is going to be a trilogy if I can't control myself. ha!

Love the illustrations you include with your articles. Beautiful!

My protagonist thinks that if she can portray herself as a victim of her own past, all will be forgiven, and she’ll get her life back.
