Pleasantly surprised! I didn’t know I was going to end up writing fiction, but it just came out. I enjoyed it and I’m excited to keep it flowing. 1,500 words. Could easily have kept going. Looking forward to surprising and delighting myself with what appears on the page tomorrow 😎

Hit a bit over 1,550 words - my prologue felt like a teaser but incredibly nervous to keep moving forward haha

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

Paige, what great progress! Totally understand being nervous, but remember this draft is just for you and it's supposed to be messy!

Paige Bryan's avatar

Thank you for this reminder - i forgot that my writing can be for myself

Therapy Truck's avatar

Great start! I only managed 1349 today. I was busy writing my monthly newsletter and knew I could catch up today. Good luck on Day 2 and say goodbye to those nerves❣️

They are getting vamos’d out the door as we speak

Good girl! Keep up the good work❣️

LOL i think all my eventual 50k words may be one long teaser at this point, we'll see, great job hitting 1,550 words!

Okay, a little bit into Nov. 2, but I got 2,000 words down before going to bed. Phew! I'd almost stopped at 1,000, but I forced myself to keep going. Trying to start First Draft November with a solid foundation. Thanks for putting this together (and for the email reminder... I almost forgot I was doing this).

I'm in awe of nighttime writers. well done!

Eric Orosco's avatar

My sleep schedule wishes I’d find a better time to write 😔

I achieved the word count in research and finished the characters and plot overview, so that’s why I count it! Tomorrow I’ll be traveling and use that time to write 🫣

Therapy Truck's avatar

It all counts, for sure! I got 1349 and wasn't disappointed because I knew I could make it up today. Best of luck on your traveling words❣️

Melina Chapa's avatar

Thank you! And yes, the good thing is we can always make up for the “lost words” the next day. Happy writing day!

Good for you! I hope you can keep going! That's a great start!

Hi Deer Reeder's avatar

1750 words today, was shooting for 10k a day BUT i did feel guidance and gelling of the plot today and so far so good.

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

10k a day?! holy crap lol 1750 is amazing progress!

Hi Deer Reeder's avatar

Thanks for the encouragement

Wrote about 1800! I spent the day researching some things and trying to figure out what the emotional core of my character could be.

Also, looked for inspirations, like movies and books that might help flesh the outline out. I don’t usually outline until I have a set direction. I often flesh out a pivotal scene for my character and go from there.

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

I love finding movies that help with the process! What a gret day

courtney's avatar

what movies and books helped you? :-)

Sylena Vale's avatar

I’m working on a story centered on cooking, family and culture. I watched Nonna’s and In the Heights. Found one called Hundred Foot Journey I’m going to watch. Also found a documentary on the history of food on Youtube. Now looking for books that might help with developing the story.

Only 600 today but I expect to catch up tomorrow!

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

600 is a seriously solid writing session. Hell yeah!

Therapy Truck's avatar

Great start, Andrea! I'm on the catch up train today today from 1349. We got this❣️

Julia Griffin's avatar

Got this notification at like 6pm and drilled down to about 1700 as quick as I could. Already working on today’s count and looking good!

i wrote 1800 words which totally caught me off guard!!! i've been so anxious + avoidant about writing since i graduated uni in the spring, and it felt amazing to feel Good about my writing for once! i really hope day 2 goes as smoothly 😭 rooting for u all!

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

Courtney, how exciting! Getting back into it after being in a school setting for so long is its own challenge (I've been there), so I'm so glad you are feeling proud of your progress! Keep going!

Hieronymus Hawkes's avatar

That's so awesome! Rooting for you to hold that feeling!

I didn’t manage to write any actual parts of my story, but I spent the morning narrowing in on my idea and writing out some questions and answers to keep my brain in gear. Planning to get to some writing today!

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

I always need a warm-up day, too. You are in it now!

Therapy Truck's avatar

It all counts, Caitlin! I've got to catch up from my 1349 start. Today looks promising. Best words to you❣️

I wrote just over 1,000 words of pretty much nonsense – but I’m aiming to use this month just to get out of my head rather than write anything particularly useful 😅

courtney's avatar

looove this!

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

YES! Exactly where you should be :)

I've managed 1,300 words for my first day. A little under what I would have liked, but still a reasonable start. Looking forward to writing more tomorrow!

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

A very reasonable and amazing start :)

Therapy Truck's avatar

That's a great start! I'm at 1349 and also looking forward to catching up today. Best words❣️

I’ve really enjoyed both days of writing, and also the fact that I’ve managed to get them out in around an hour each day, which is such a short session.

Update: I didn’t write yesterday because I kept finding my other tasks more of a priority. Homework, laundry, etc. I evaluated the reason for my putting things off and this reflection faced me into my fear.

The same old things: not good enough. Stupid. Where do I start. Blank-page scaries.

Opportunity for growth: have everything planned ahead of time. As much as I can. The pen. The Journal. The spot. Doesn’t have to be the same space but must be planned. This gives me no opportunity to avoid. I’m also going to set a time. 5:15am. Period. Treat like being late to work.

Today: I woke up. Tracked down the perfect journal. Got sidetracked with old journals. Not good enough journals. Too big. Too small. Reigned myself in. Found my favorite fountain pen. Sat and stared at the page. My stomach hurting. My heart aching and my nerves jangling.

I read a paragraph from a book that that’s similar in nature to this new project(workhorse) to orient me. Give me breathing room to determine the bones of this skeleton. I already know what and about. But needed a starting point. A first paragraph. I also don’t want to copy anyone. Just be inspired.

Started writing. 5 pages later and I have a start to chapter one. Didn’t want to stop w which thrilled me. But I had promised my 90 year old in laws I’d take them on a long drive to see the Sierra Nevada mountains and all their leafy grandeur.

I’m here, midway through journey. As they eat, I remembered my accountability friends and I am checking in. Thank you for caring. It feels good, this camaraderie.

Hope you’re all resilient and writing amazing stuff. What am I thinking?! OF COURSE you’re writing amazing stuff.

Okay, gotta get back on the road. See you tomorrow.

I keep getting stuck in plotting purgatory - and struggling to get actual words on the page. Hoping that this month helps me break out of that mold!

Kailey Brennan DelloRusso's avatar

Yes, break the mold! haha leave the plotting behind for now and stay curious and playful instead :)
